MONTREAL – The major award nominees have been announced for McGill University’s 47th annual athletics awards gala, to be held on April 9 at Plaza Centre-Ville on Boulevard Robert Bourassa. The event will be streamed live for free

Five nominees are in the running for the Major D. Stuart Forbes Trophy, presented to the male student-athlete who has brought the most credit to the University by reason of his athletic achievements.

The finalists include OUA East hockey all-star Brandon Frattaroli of Pierrefonds, Que., who led the nation with 21 goals in 28 games. Including all games, he posted a team-leading 23-20-43 record in 41 contests overall.

Another contender is football quarterback Éloa Latendresse-Régimbald of Montreal, who led the RSEQ conference in both rushing (781 yards) and touchdowns (9) in eight regular season games.

Rounding out the group are three freshmen all-stars, including swimmer Loïc Courville-Fortin of Repentigny, Que., who earned second-team All-Canadian honours after winning silver and bronze medals at Nationals.

Soccer defender Ibrahim Chami of Laval, Que., who earned All-Tournament honours at Nationals, played every minute of all 17 games overall and was a second-round draft pick by Winnipeg of the Canadian Premier League.

On the women’s side, five conference all-stars are vying for the Gladys Bean Trophy, awarded to the female athlete of the year.

That group includes Chloe Renaud, a first-team All-Canadian soccer midfielder from St. Hubert, Que., who led the league with 12 goals in 14 games and was voted RSEQ player of the year.

Swimmer Elizabeth Ling, a second team All-Canadian from Calgary, won six gold medals at the RSEQ championships, in addition to silver and bronze medals at the Nationals.

Also in the mix is basketball guard Lily Rose Chatila of Quebec City, who started in all 24 games overall. She finished fourth in the league scoring race and registered a season-best 29 points in a game, the team’s highest total in 15 years.
