Hansen named U SPORTS All-Rookie

WINNIPEG –  The honours continue to pour in for Sophia Hansen.

The first-year outside hitter for the Calgary Dinos women’s volleyball team was named to the 2025 U SPORTS All-Rookie Team Wednesday night at the annual All-Canadian Award Ceremony leading into this year’s U SPORTS Championship Tournament.

Hansen – who was named the Canada West Rookie of the Year just last week – got her collegiate career off to a strong start. The 6-foot-2 outside hitter led the Dinos in both total kills (262) and kills/set (3.23) as a rookie, ranking seventh and ninth in all of Canada West in those two categories, respectively. 

A product of Edmonton, Alta., Hansen was one of three Dinos to start all 20 regular season games on the year and helped lead this year’s young squad back to the postseason after missing out on the playoffs a season ago.

Hansen also finished year one with 110 digs, 22 service aces, and 20 total blocks while hitting .214.

This marks the ninth time a Dino has been named to the U SPORTS All-Rookie Team in Dinos history, and the most recent since 2020.

Joining Hansen on this year’s all-rookie squad are Béatrice Dubreuil (Sherbrooke), Grace Blaskovits (Saint Mary’s), Olivia Boulding (UBCO), Emma Buntic (Western), Gabrielle Flaman (Saskatchewan), and Charlotte Ross (Brock).
