2025 U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Preview

Brandon, MB – The Mustangs Men’s Volleyball team are set to open the 2025 U SPORTS Championship Friday afternoon as they take on the Sherbrooke Vert & Or.

Western finished the regular season 10 & 10 but has had one of the most memorable postseason runs in many years. The Mustangs have been on the road for the entirety of the postseason, starting with a 3-0 win over Toronto, followed by a five-set marathon with Queen’s & finished the OUA playoffs with a 3-0 victory over York.

“Being a six-seed and not having a home playoff game so far has been tough but I think it has made our group come together and grow even more,” said co-captain Nico Folz “I think the playoff experience so far sets us up here, being in an away environment and we are really excited to show what we can do,”

While the Mustangs have been led statistically by 3rd year Cade Smith, a 1st team OUA All-Star, the team knows they will need a more balanced attack this weekend to succeed.

“Cade has had an outstanding year, one of the best I have seen from a third-year athlete in my time at Western, but in the playoffs we have seen a bunch of guys contributing and that is what has helped us get to this point,” said Mustangs Head Coach Jim Sage.
